THE YOUNG FARMER'S CLUB

Operating from the heart of Methodist Academy in The Gambia.

Introduction:

The Young Farmer's club was founded in November 2002. The club owns its existence to the initiative of Mr. Ernest Aubee,the project Manager of the United Nations Development Programme and member of the School’s Board of Governors.

The Department of Science responded to Mr. Ernest Aubee’s suggestion in the beginning of the 2002/2003 Academic year. Interested staff members and Agricultural Science tutors/teachers met on 7th November, 2002 to discuss the aims and objectives of the club. The discussion resulted in the first inaugural meeting of the club in November 15th 2002. Precisely one hundred interested members including staff and students attended this inaugural meeting.

  Aims and Objective of the Club
The following are the aims and objectives of the club.

1. To stimulate and develop a positive attitude of students of the Gambia Methodist Academy towards agriculture.

2. To stimulate the interest of teachers and students in other schools

3 To encourage practical work among students to ease their performance in the examinations.

4. To encourage students to take up careers in the Agricultural discipline..

5. To encourage the celebration of Agricultural Science day in Gambia Schools as a means of creating awareness in food production.

6. To encourage agricultural research and scholasticism among students in the Senior Secondary schools in The Gambia.
